Manipur’s transgender activist Malem Thongam was scouted from the state’s Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s ancestral home located at Luwangsangbam.

Imphal, Manipur, March 12 (HBTV): Manipur’s transgender activist Malem Thongam was scouted from the state’s Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s ancestral home located at Luwangsangbam.

Malem Thongam came to Singh’s residence on Tuesday around 3:30 pm to a protest.

However, a team of Manipur police personnel seized the placard brought by Malem and escorted her from the residence.

Thongam said it's almost twenty days since she started her fasting journey from Delhi. What pained her the most was the recently held virtual program at the City Convention centre in which the chief minister and other representatives participated but they failed to raise a single issue relating to the current situation in Manipur.

Manipur continues to be in turmoil since ethnic violence broke out in May 2023 between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities of the state.

Thongam said she only wanted to register a protest at the chief minister’s house but the police physically removed her from the gate.

Thongam said she will continue her fast and continue to demand a peaceful solution to the Manipur issue.

As she was being escorted to a police vehicle, authorities informed that she will be admitted to the JNIMS hospital.
